RIM keeps winning because its email is best, even though others are catching up. The tight intergration of mail to hardware design is also a factor, though BlackBerry's hardware probably peaked with the 73xx.

Michael Mace doesn't like BB's weird keyboard layout (it is a pain, but you do get used to it).
